Double success for LRCG Research Prize laureates

Luca Savorelli and Davide Dragone win two awards at the LSE Research Poster Exhibition - The success of the event represents a milestone in applied socio-economic research.



It was a double success for Luca Savorelli and Davide Dragone (LSE Economics Department) who won the LRCG Poster Prize, as well as the prize by popular vote among LSE staff and students. Both prizes were awarded for their work on ‘Increasing the size of fashion models? Food consumption, social conformism and health concerns: implications for public policy .'

 

The first ever LSE Research Poster Competition marks a big success and millstone in applied socio-economic research. Louisa Green (Research Degrees Manager) says 'Over 200 people attended the event…[it] offered a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and network, strengthening the research community at the LSE…we very much hope it can become a fixture of the academic calendar at the LSE.'

 

Max Hänska-Ahy and Jose Olivas-Osuna from the LSE PhD steering committee emphasise: 'we are extremely grateful to our sponsors who have supported us with time and money to make this event a big success...[through the event]...we have achieved much more than just showcasing research excellence…we have created a more cohesive and collaborative research community across all LSE departments'

 

Other laureates include:

Vlad Glaveanu (Social Psychology Department), for 'Creativity and cultural context' (Barclays Grand Poster Prize)

 

Michael John Bloomfield (International Relations Department) for 'Power, profits and principles. A regime analysis of firm responses to NGO pressure' (NUS Poster Prize)

 

Lila Caballero-Sosa (Government Department), for 'Political dynamics of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies' (RBS Poster Prize)

 

Heba Elsayed (Media and Communications Department), for 'I'm Egyptian, I'm Muslim, but I'm also cosmopolitan: The unlikely young cosmopolitans of Cairo' (MAN Poster Prize)

 

Aashish Mishra (Geography and Environment Department: Regional Planning Group), for 'The voice of the urban poor in large development projects: The case of Mumbai shopkeeper resettlement' (Matrix Poster Prize)
